Science Newsletters to Fuel Your Imagination

You could also call this post: How to Live at the Outside Edge of Science

Save time with science newsletters! Early science fiction authors showed us new worlds that were fueled only by the imagination of the writer. Throughout the years as science and technology began to grow at an exponential pace, our imaginations struggled to keep up with story themes that were once fiction and are now fact. Now up to date information can arrive in your personal inbox daily via science newsletters and social media.

In addition, as technology began its exponential march into the future, those among us that prefer to dwell in the future were able to become more vocal. We dedicated our future ideas to an online presence and began to share those ideas through websites and email. Finally, scienctists, technology experts, futurists, and science fiction fans and writers had a place where they could all come together.

For practical purposes, I have always preferred email as a medium for my initial science explorations. All of the below emails are my favorites. Somtimes the information comes from a variety of sources for a variety of reasons. Sometimes you are reading text from the original author. Either way, a fascinating future waits for us.

Throughout the years many science emails have come and gone, those in the list below have stayed in my email box the longest. I encourage you to check them out.

Ray Kurzweil
I first subscribed to the www.kurzweilai.net in early 2000. The original site has metamorphosed into more than one site now. They are busily aggregating the works of Ray Kurzweil and other important discoveries. They do have a newsletter you can subscribe to. Through the years the works of Ray Kurzweil have continued to encourage the futurist in me. Well worth taking a look when you can. For those of you who want to know more about Ray Kurzweil and his history, you can read his biography here, his wiki here, his technology views and predictions are in the wiki.

Space.com
The About page at Space.com tells us that: “Space.com is the premier source of space exploration, innovation and astronomy news, chronicling (and celebrating) humanity’s ongoing expansion across the final frontier.” I couldn’t agree more, they have never failed me when I am feeling uncreative and closed in. Highly recommended.

Space Daily
The following are a series of Space Media publications that do a fantastic job of aggregating difficult to find science news. My favorites are: Terra Daily, Energy Daily, and Solar Daily

AI Weekly
More of a newsletter for the investor/techy person, it is a newsletter that deals with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Great background on where the industry is at, includes news on the ethics of AI.

Futurism
When I begin to think the momentum for the AI industry has stalled for a while, I go take a look at Futurism and catch up on what is really going on. I found infographics for your viewing and posting pleasure, papers on ethical design of AI, even a You Tube video of Stephen Hawking in free float. Keep an eye on this email, they are helping to monitoring the bleeding edge of AI development. Definitely an important resource for sci-fi writers and new futurists. Be ready, this is a pay to read subscription site.

Medium
Pay a visit to Medium and search on artificial intelligence. There you will find the movers and shakers of the world of AI, the promoters, the believers. Elon Musk, Peter Diamandis are there, but, so are many others we haven’t heard of that are speaking out about our future. Be sure and check out this jewel: The Non-Technical Guide to Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, a well-curated list of even more resources. I spend way too many hours reading on Medium and if you are interested in artificial intelligence, you will enjoy checking it out.

Rare Connections
Don’t miss this site. A truly interesting list of AI newsletters and more.

This is the most comprehensive and up to date newsletter for AI that I have seen yet.
